Can I consolidate my credit card debt into a home loan?

SM asked:

I have roughly $15K in credit card debt. Ya horrible I know. My question is If I buy a house right now could I just take out more of a loan for the house and use it to pay off those credit cards? My reasoning in doing this is to get that debt at a lower interest rate by consolidating it into a home loan. Right now I’m paying more in finance charges on these credit cards than I would a house payment.

I have a serious shopping addiction and I don’t know how to stop. I buy things just because and if I don’t have the cash, I always charge it. This is an illness for me. My credit card debt is extremely out of control and I can’t seem to stop. I’ve tried to find a shopoholics anonymous, but haven’t found one I liked. Any books out there that might help me or any other suggestions?

Is Bankruptcy the best choice for an unemployed person with $25K in credit card debt?

November 1st, 2009
Heidi asked:

I was recently terminated from my job in July and am having difficulty finding a new one, but in the meantime I have about $25K in credit card debt and not able to make payments. A credit counselor suggested bankruptcy, but I know the consequences of such action. However, without a job I have no money and I do plan to get one as soon as possible. So please don’t tell me to get a job, I already know that and doing everything I can by applying for many different positions. But given my current situation, is bankruptcy my only choice and is it better to do when you are unemployed or have a job? I have also already tried to contact the creditors to negotiate the terms, but no luck since my credit is in such bad shape. Any suggestions?
I forgot to add something…will filing bankruptcy hurt my chances of getting hired for another job?

Credit Card Debt Settlement – Simple Way to Handle the Settlement of Credit Card Debt

The very important information you are about to receive will help you understand credit card debt settlement and how to go about it effectively and safely. It will help you avoid making mistakes. You would get things right and be debt free.

A major nightmare many people suffer from is the issue of credit card debt. Carrying out a successful card debt settlement is a great relieve to such people. It takes away all the stress of the debt hanging over your head. It gives you a new lease of life. It brings you a better life since you can now worry less about your credit debts. Just imagine being free from all those nagging phone calls and mails from the company you owe. All this would become a thing of the past quickly. You will be free from the debt tension. This is the reason why it’s so important that you carry out a debt settlement.

Now, there are two ways to approach credit card debt settlement:

1.) You can basically go for a card debt settlement on your own or,
2.) You could simply get the necessary advice you require from a credit counseling firm or professional

Both ways are fine if they work for you. The important thing here is getting you out of debt effectively and fast. If you decide to go for debt settlement on your own, then you will need to scrutinize the various options available to you. These include things like checking on the various balance transfer (consolidation) offers available out there. It also includes finding out what short term loan offers the banks have available for people in your situation.

However, if you choose the option of allowing a debt settlement professional or company do the work for you (which I prefer and highly recommend), then you need to check out their credentials or see if they come highly recommended by past users of their services.

Nowadays, it’s quite common to see tons and tons of people advertising their services as debt settlement experts. Some claim to be able to fix things in one day, and yet they lack valid recommendations.
This has made it so difficult to know who to really trust and who to ask for help without putting yourself at more risk. Many of these advisors and companies are not genuine. They lack the expertise required to get the job done.

One of the things you really need to understand is that debt settlement isn’t something which happens overnight. Please beware of such agencies which promise heaven and earth without the right credentials. The sad part in all of this is the damage this does to the really wonderful debt settlement companies out there. There are lots of highly professional and good advisors/companies to approach when trying to go for debt settlement.

These people will help you throughout the process until you truly get out of your debt problem. The effective advice they would offer you would more than compensate for any fees they charge you from their services. Some won’t even charge you until you start seeing positive results. Inform them about the true profile of your current debt and you will get the help you need. It’s very important you choose the right people because this will affect your future.

When you have received the help you need, it’s very vital that you try to avoid getting in the debt situation again. A good credit card debt settlement advisor would show you how to avoid falling into this trap again. Get one now.

I have been told the statute of limitations for credit card debt in Texas is 4 years. After 4 years, the credit card agency can no longer sue you. After those 4 years have passed, are all of the negative items removed from your credit report? Or is it 7 years?
