My apartment rental management reported an incorrect name to the credit agencies for my SS number?

This is a bit of a predicament I have found myself in. I just moved into my new apartment after a couple of weeks of hard work tracking down a mysterious name on my credit reports, the apartment management told me they could not allow me to move into the apartment if there was more than 1 name on SS number for the credit agencies.

It appears that there was a mispelling of my name reported to all 3 CRA’s. I managed to get a copy of my report from trans union and it stated that my report was created on 07/2007, the same date that my apartment management sent an ‘inquery’ to the 3 CRA companies. Doesn’t this seem suspicious? What can I do!?

I feel like the management company is looking for ways to hold me down and discriminate against me, if they in fact were the ones who reported this blatant misspelling of my name. This has caused a big mess for my credit reports and I am trying to sort it out with the CRAs and notify them that they have an incorrect name associated with my SS numbe

FCRA provides the framework designed to help you eliminate erroneous or unfair credit information from your credit report. All consumers have the right to challenge the accuracy of their credit report. Once you challenge the accuracy of a particular item of information, the credit bureau must investigate that item within 30 business days.

If the credit bureau finds that the challenged information is erroneous or cannot be confirmed or denied, it must be promptly removed from your credit history.
