How long does an inquiry’s stay on your credit report?

Alex asked:

I have 85 hard inquiry’s. I put a fraud alert on my credit report. Is there any way I can erase the ones I did not apply for?

The enquiries will remain on your credit report for 2 years. You should write a letter and explain the problem including the list of all enquiries and send them to Credit bureaus (Experian, Trans Union and Equifax) by registered mail. You should also contact the companies that made those enquiries and ask them to remove them since you did not apply for the credit. It may take few months but you should keep contacting them and reminding them to remove enquiries from your credit report.

Contact (by mail) the credit agency involved and DISPUTE the inquiry’s. You must dispute EACH one specifically. Be sure to state the reason. That way, the credit agency will add your letter to anyone requesting your info. Also they will then contact each company that inquired and request their answer to your letter.

The bummer is, there is NO law that really controls the credit agency(s) and their actions.
